Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、江戸時代最大の都市である江戸において、金銭貸借や資産運用といった金融活動がどれほど社会に普及・浸透していたのかを検討し、江戸社会、さらには日本近世社会の特質を、金融的な側面から明らかにしようとするものである。
金融史研究は大坂の両替商の分析を中心に進められており、西の大坂に対して東の金融拠点である江戸については研究が立ち遅れている。そこで本研究では、江戸の特徴でもある公的機関、具体的には町の代表である名主、江戸最大の金融機関ともいえる半官半民の江戸町会所、さらには徳川幕府による金融活動の実態を解明し、江戸の金融社会の特質を明らかにする。
