Outline of Research at the Start

これまで近代における日本人の他者認識をめぐる研究は明治政府や知識人を対象としたものが中心であった。近年、大衆娯楽に描かれた他者像の分析を通して日本人（一般民衆）の他者認識を検討する試みが行われているが、未だ克服すべき課題は多い。
本研究では、大衆娯楽に描かれた他者像を近世から近代という長期的スパンの中で検討し、日本人の他者認識の形成と変容の推移を明らかにすることを目指す。具体的には、①「唐人踊り」「唐人祭り」、②新派劇の戦争芝居、③戦前期の映画作品、などに描かれた他者像を分析し、芸能史やジェンダー史を専門とする研究者の協力を得ながら多角的な視野のもとに検討を行う。
