Outline of Research at the Start

ビルマ「建国の父」として肯定的に評価されることが多いアウンサン将軍について、１９４２～１９４６年の言動をも視野に入れて捉え直し、実像を明らかにする。従来のアウンサン研究は、１９４１年前後に集中しており、彼が一貫して志向したものや、日本軍から何を受け継いだのかが鮮明になっていなかった。本研究では、日本・ビルマ（ミャンマー）・イギリスで史資料を集めて分析を進め、アウンサンに関する諸言説を検証する。その作業は、太平洋戦争と日本軍の影響の評価という日本史の課題にもなる。さらに、アウンサンを称揚する言説が「神話」に過ぎなかったとして、それでもなぜ多くのビルマ人が彼に希望を託したのかを考察する。
