Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は1900年の義和団事件から1911年の辛亥革命までの清朝最後の11年間、義和団事件の戦災による首都北京の都市破壊と新政期における復興事業を北京の首都改造という観点から捉え、それらを通じた首都の社会変容の解明を課題とする。本研究では、新政期の諸政策の展開が清朝の北京の首都空間にいかなる作用をもたらし、首都とその社会にいかなる改造と変容をもたらしたのかを解明する。具体的研究課題は、①義和団事件の戦災による北京城の破壊と首都機能の崩壊に関する研究、②首都北京の都市基盤施設の再建・新設による首都改造、城門・街道と社会変容、③巡警の新設による伝統的治安統治の変容に関する研究である。
