Outline of Research at the Start	本研究はヨーロッパ中世における最大規模の会議である15世紀のコンスタンツ公会議とバーゼル公会議を取り上げ、両公会議とその周辺において、教会分裂（シスマ）の解消と教会改革をめぐる多様なメディアによる濃密なコミュニケーションが、一種の「公共性」を帯びた言論空間を生み出したことを明らかにする。全欧から公会議に参加した多数の知識人（学識聖職者、大学人、人文主義者）の対話、説教、講義、論文による知的交流のみならず、教皇罷免の裁判手続きにおいては、巷間に流通する「うわさ」も取り込まれ、多数の教皇批判の俗謡も流布していたように、公会議は広く社会の「公論」との相互作用の中で展開したことを明らかにしようとする。
