Outline of Research at the Start	本研究はイギリス海軍の水路局の活動に注目する。水路局は海洋空間の測量と海図の生産・流通を一手に担い、その海図は諸外国に広く普及するなど、この時期の世界的な航海や貿易に強い影響を及ぼす組織であった。19世紀後半のイギリス帝国による海洋測量事業がいかなる政策のもとで実施され、それによって生み出された海図が、帝国の拡大や世界的な貿易・海運・人間の移動をどのように促進したかを検討する。
