Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、米国のアジア系住民における「アジア系」としての共通の意識に着目し、そのような意識が戦後の中国系やコリア系の流入に生じたという通説に対して、戦前の移民初期の日系人の間に、そのような意識が既に存在してたことを示すことで、これまでに考えられているよりも半世紀も前から「アジア系」という共通認識の萌芽がみられたことを示す。ひいてはそれによって国際社会における日本人のイメージ向上にもつなげようとするものである。
