Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は、ドイツ民主共和国（東ドイツ）とドイツ連邦共和国（西ドイツ）との国境、すなわち「ドイツ内部国境」に位置した地域の歴史およびドイツ統一後の変化を、旧東西ドイツ双方の諸都市の事例研究によって明らかにし、その歴史の語りが今日の社会にもたらす影響を検証するものである。モニュメントや国境博物館、歴史教育の実態を調査し、東西分断の最前線にあった旧国境地域で、記憶の伝承の方法やあり方にどのような特徴が見られるのかを分析する。そして、権威主義的な新右翼勢力が伸張する現在、自由と民主主義、人権思想を社会に根付かせていくために、分断の歴史の教訓がいかなる役割を果たしうるのかについて考えていく。
