Outline of Research at the Start	弥生時代は、日本列島を舞台とする歴史の中でもっとも地域性が強い特色がある。しかし、中期と後期の二回、東西日本を跨ぐ広域的な交流と社会の再編が起きた。本研究は中期中葉に焦点を当て、各地の遺跡で出土した土器群を型式学という方法論により、地域ごとの個性を明確にするとともに、地域間の関係を具体的に読み解く。本研究の主たる対象は土器群と土器型式であるが、中期中葉の広域交流は単なる土器型式の広域的な連携ではなく、本格的な水稲農耕社会の形成が進行した点が重要である。そのため，東日本における水稲作の受容や、集落・墓制・青銅器・鉄器の普及も併せて検討を進めて総合化する。
