Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、『日本三代実録』に記載された貞観16（874）年に指宿市開聞岳の噴火があったとする記事に当てられている「紫コラ」の年代的妥当性を、開聞神社がその噴火時まであったとされる地点の発掘調査などを通して検討することを目的とする。紫コラは考古学で年代を決める際の「鍵層」としても活用され、その年代を確定することは重要である。確実に被災した年代がわかっている開聞神社跡地の発掘調査による資料を用い、型式学的分析や種々の自然科学分析データを用いた総合的な検討によって、この問題について進展を図りたい。
