Outline of Research at the Start	利根川中流域は水害常襲地域として知られ，盛土や石積みによりかさ上げされた土地に築造された水防建築「水塚」が現存する。本研究は，この利根川中流域における水塚について，その歴史的・文化的遺産としての価値に着目するだけではなく，水塚分布と利根川中流域の河道変遷や過去の水害との関係性や，過去および地球温暖化の影響により激甚化が予測されている将来の水害発生時において水塚がどの程度防災・減災機能を有しているかなどについて，水塚分布や盛土高さなどに関する現地調査，将来的な水塚保存に関する住民への意向調査などから検証し，地域防災における水塚の有用性を「流域治水」の観点から評価し，明らかにする。
