Outline of Research at the Start	マメ科の樹木であるモパネが優占するモパネ植生帯は、南部アフリカ広域に分布する。モパネ植生帯は、地域住民の貴重なタンパク源となっているモパネワームを生み出すとともに、同地域で広く行われている家畜飼養における重要な採食資源となっている。そのため、モパネ植生帯は地域のタンパク質供給源として機能してきた。他方、モパネ植生帯は気候変化や社会経済変化にともなって劣化が進んでおり、タンパク質供給源としての役割も変化していると考えられるが、その実態は明らかになっていない。本研究では、モパネ植生帯の動態とタンパク質供給源としての役割を解明することを通じて、地域の食料安全保障に貢献する。
