Outline of Research at the Start

本研究課題は、ヨーロッパの中でも第1位の所蔵数を誇る在ドイツのアイヌ・コレクションの調査研究を遂行するものである。それは、19世紀後半～20世紀初頭に収集された初期コレクション群であるため、明治政府の同化政策による打撃を受ける前のアイヌ文化を知ることができ、アイヌ文化の独自性とは何かを考える上で欠くことのできない数少ない貴重な資料となる。また、所蔵館の全点網羅を基本とする悉皆調査の採用により、未知なるアイヌ民具の発見だけでなく、日本の近代化を背景としたヨーロッパの初期コレクションの形成史の解明を導く。
