Outline of Research at the Start	本研究の目的は、ケニア西部に多く居住するナンディ人の聾者と聴者が、「外来」のキリスト教的価値観と「自生」の伝統的人間観の双方を参照点としながらいかにして共生しているか、民族誌的に明らかにすることである。これまでの聾者をめぐる研究では、手話を用いるマイノリティとしての「聾者」の「独自の文化」に着目した研究が多かった。それに対し、ナンディ社会の聾者と聴者の双方が「外来」の価値観と「自生」の思想を融通無碍に参照しつつ、どのように互いに影響し合いながら生きているかを本研究で具体的に明らかにすることで、人類学的立場から、多様な価値観の下での共生のあり方についての新たな知見を得ることが見込まれる。
