Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は「竹細工の代替」としてしか評価されてこなかった、広葉樹を素材とする編組品を、「竹以前」の編組技術を体現するものと捉え直し、近代における伝承の実態や地域性、成立背景となる環境的・社会的条件を明らかにすることを目的とする。
このために全国の事例を網羅的に集約・整理・分析することで、形態・素材・製作技術・用途等の実態について、その全体像と、地域ごとの特徴を把握する。さらにササ類やつる性植物など他素材の編組品との比較を通じて、特定の地域で広葉樹ヘギ材が選択された環境的・社会的背景を分析することで、その独自性や文化的・歴史的意義を再評価し、日本列島における編組技術史を再編することを目指す。
