Outline of Research at the Start	本研究の目的はモンゴル牧畜民の農耕実践と農牧複合の独自性を漢民族との比較を通じて明らかにすることである。これまでモンゴル人の生業としての牧畜研究が中心的網羅的に行われてきたのに対して、本研究ではモンゴル人による農耕に着目する。対象とするのはオルドス地域とその南に位置する黄土高原の陝西省北部である。とりわけキビ栽培とその加工利用実態と文化的側面に着目する。本研究は文化人類学におけるモンゴル・中国研究という位置づけであるとともに、考古学、歴史学にも新しい知見を提供することを目指す。同時に、乾燥地に適した農牧複合モデルの構築という環境問題・開発問題への理論的実践的貢献が期待される。
