本研究では、現代アメリカの民主党と共和党における支持基盤の変容と集票活動が政策形成、特に外交政策に与える影響を選挙過程から明らかにする。トランプ時代以降に顕著なポピュリズムが外交政策にまで影響する現象を理解する上で、表出される外交政策分析とは別に選挙過程における支持基盤との利害関係の把握が急務化している。政党内で予備選過程を中心に影響を拡大する争点志向の有権者に焦点を絞り選挙過程を分析する。
