Outline of Research at the Start

This project aims to examine technology spillovers from foreign direct investment (FDI). By combining rich firm, patent, and trade and FDI policy data, the project will address the following three questions: Does innovation by foreign affiliates in the host country lead to technology spillovers benefiting local firms? How to empirically identify the causal effect of FDI technology spillovers on the performance of domestic firms? What is the aggregate impact of local technology spillovers and FDI policies on economic growth in developing countries?
