本研究では、写真や映像を用いてインタビューを行うビジュアルエリシテーション調査を通して、占領期日本の社会的風景とそれをもとに成立する社会認識を解明する。占領期にGHQは日本社会に関する調査を進める中で膨大な量の写真や映像を撮影しており、日本各地のさまざまな風景を記録している。そこで本研究では、GHQが撮影した写真・映像資料を用いてビジュアルエリシテーション調査を実施することで、占領期日本の社会的風景を検証するとともにそうした写真・映像資料の視聴を通してつくられる社会認識を明らかにする。
