Outline of Research at the Start	ネパールには未だにカーストが残存し、上位カーストや菜食主義者が現在もなお動物蛋白摂取を制限している。ヒンドゥー教の信仰による可食、不可食、浄・不浄の厳格な制限もある。この典型的な食習慣や社会構造で生育する子どもの発育状況を調査すれば発育学の発展に寄与することができる。本研究の主たる目的は、子どもの菜食・非菜食が発育に及ぼす影響を身体計測（身長・体重・周径・皮下脂肪厚）の実測値及び栄養調査を用いて比較検討することである。調査対象は、菜食及び非菜食の上・中位カーストとし、各種調査（身体計測、栄養調査）によりカーストや宗教・宗派による摂取食物の相違から発育に及ぼす影響を比較検討する。
