Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は日英の教育史の成果を融合し、国境や領域を横断する世界史的な視野にたつ研究を試みる。具体的には、近代の日・英。ヨーロッパにおける家政学の「文化の転移」と、その媒介者である大江（宮川）スミ（1875-1948）を切り口に、それを可能とした各国の教育的・社会的状況を分析することで、19世紀後半から20世紀初頭の女子中等・高等教育の世界的な拡大の構造と特質を明らかにする。大江は日本とイギリス＆ヨーロッパという異なる空間を、国民国家による近代化の担い手と主体性をもつ個人という異なる立場で移動した。大江が媒介する家政学の「文化の転移」は、女子教育を通じた近代化・西洋化・文明化への貢献の一例を示す。
