Outline of Research at the Start	令和元年度から小学校での学習指導要領の改訂などに合わせ、中学校、高校での英語教育改革が推進されている。高度な英語活動を通して、学習者の英語力向上が期待される一方、「ある一定数の学習者が取り残されている」可能性がある。この10年間の教育現場と社会の動きを統括するとすれば、特性を持ち、学び方の異なる学習者の存在への理解は広まったものの、教育者の本務である具体的指導スキルの習得と向上が現状課題である。よって、第2言語習得理論と学習者要因、特別支援教育の観点から学習者特性などをカバーした小学校英語教育に従事する、特に英語教育を専門としない教員へのリカレント教育の実施が喫緊に対応すべき課題である。
