| Outline of Research at the Start |
Given relatively little attention given to the issues of faculty well-being in Japanese liberal arts colleges, the proposed project focuses on enhancing faculty satisfaction and well-being via innovative programs at the personal, contextual, and institutional levels in different cultural contexts.
|
| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Several activities were conducted in Year 1: (1) performed an extensive literature review of faculty well-being from a few theoretical perspective whose purpose was to provide the background for the survey forms; (2) both the survey forms and related focus group interview questions were constructed; and (3) several liberal arts universities in Japan, the US, Indonesia, Korea and Pakistan were identified, and the arrangements for data collection were made. In addition, we planned to hold an international workshop amongst all participating colleges, but it was not possible mainly due to scheduling conflicts.

Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The arrangement of the surveys and interviews in multiple locations were more difficult because we wanted to cover several countries across different timezones. Plus, each of the researchers ran into unexpected duties and responsibilites at the home institutions. Nonetheless, we will rectify the situation with time management.
|
| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
For the duration of the project implementation, we will proceed as scheduled, including the translation of the survey forms and interview questions, data collection in all these colleges in different countries, data analyses, conference presentations and publications.
