Outline of Research at the Start	ラットなどの動物を用いた研究では，加齢に伴う記憶保持能力の低下が数多く報告されている。しかし，ヒトの高齢者で認められるような記憶間の干渉や記憶過程の制御等の詳細な記憶現象が加齢によって受ける影響や，老齢に至るまでの長期的な物理的・社会的環境要因の影響については，ほぼ知られていない。本研究は，ラットを対象に従来にない詳細な水準で加齢の影響を検討する。そして，若齢時から老齢時にかけての長期間にわたる飼育条件や，認知的な実験経験の介入により，ヒトにおける認知予備力のような，若い頃の経験や認知的な作業の効果が老齢動物に与える効果を，ラットを対象とした研究で明らかにする。
