Outline of Research at the Start	プチスポット火山の成因について様々な新事実が解明されつつある一方で、太平洋プレート自体の物質学的な変化は未だ定量化していないため研究計画を着想するに至った。前々項目で述べたように日本列島の地殻変動を規制しているという観点からも沈み込む太平洋プレートの実体は解明しなければならない調査対象である。本研究計画は、沈み込む側の古い太平洋プレートの物質学的なアプローチと言う独自性と、その実体を構築する創造的な研究成果が期待できる。冒頭で述べたような日本列島の社会活動と切り離せない火山や地震といった地殻変動の原因である太平洋プレートの実体や深海底の調査を広く社会に発信する。
