Outline of Research at the Start

Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear is a powerful tool for characterizing complex viscoelastic fluids. However, the potential of oscillatory flows for measuring extensional properties of complex fluids is largely unexplored. We aim to develop methods for testing the rheological response of viscoelastic fluids to Large Amplitude Oscillatory Extension. This will lead to advancements in the understanding and measurement of the extensional properties of viscoelastic fluids. Results will be important in optimizing time-dependent fluid processing operations like fiber spinning and ink-jet printing.
