Outline of Research at the Start

ホタルの成虫は、初夏に発生し、繁殖行動につながるコミュニケーションとして、特徴的な発光を示すため、夏の風物詩の一つとも言われている。ヒメボタルの雄はお互いに発光応答することが知られており、その発光同期のメカニズムについて様々な数理学的モデルが提唱されているが、未だ詳しい事は分かっていない。本研究では、ヒメボタルの雄の発光の詳細を高速度カメラによって観察し、その動画を解析することで、発光同期の詳細を計測し、短周期のウルトラディアンリズムを制御する体内時計の仕組みを明らかにすることを目的とする。
