Outline of Research at the Start

アサは、古くから縄・衣類・漁具として使われ、その後、神社の注連縄、横綱の化粧廻し、七味唐辛子、花火の火薬などにも使われている。しかし、我が国のアサ栽培は、GHQの指示の元で大麻取締法が制定された後、令和3年にはアサの栽培面積7ha、栽培者数27名と激減した。
アサに基づく伝統文化は継承・発展させる必要があるが、我が国においてはアサの植物学的・農学的な現代科学が全く発展していない。そこで本研究では、我が国の繊維アサについて、その生態・実態を解剖し、育種・栽培体系といった農業基盤を整備し、交配・ゲノム編集等により繊維用無毒アサの新系統を作出しつつ、雌雄異株の性決定システムの解明を目指す。
