Outline of Research at the Start

昆虫からは、ボルバキアやスピロプラズマなど、生殖操作を行う共生細菌が多く見つかっているが、別種の細菌が、どのようにして共通の生殖操作能力を持つようになったのかは明らかになっていない。本研究では、共生細菌リケッチアが引き起こす生殖操作に着目し、遺伝子解析とトランスフェクション手法を用いて原因遺伝子の特定を行う。原因遺伝子の比較とスクリーニングを通して、生殖操作の獲得起源と生態学的意義を明らかにし、生殖操作の進化過程の解明に寄与することを目指す。
