Outline of Research at the Start	近年、これまでにないドメイン構成やサブユニット構成を持つtRNA修飾酵素が幾つも発見されています。本研究の目的は、「これらの酵素の各ドメインやサブユニットは、どのような役割を持ち、どのようにして特定のtRNAの特定の部位に作用するのか？」を明らかにすることです。ヒトの場合、tRNA修飾の欠損やtRNA修飾酵素の変異が様々な遺伝病の原因となることが知られつつあり、当該分野は、遺伝病の病態の理解、新たな遺伝子診断法・遺伝子治療法の開発に直結する分野です。また、tRNA修飾は、コレラ菌、チフス菌、レトロウイルスなどの感染必須因子であり、感染性微生物の防除の観点からも重要な研究分野となっています。
