Outline of Research at the Start	光合成細菌のタイプ1光合成反応中心（RC1）は，元来いわれているようなPS1のホモログではなく，メナキノンをメナキノールに還元する，タイプ2機能を有するのではないか。その真偽は現代の全てのRCの進化起源をも左右する重大な問題である。本研究課題では，RC1のメナキノンが何処で何をしているのかを解明する。これを阻む最大の問題は、精製操作や光還元によるRC1からのメナキノンの脱離である。本研究課題では，立体構造解析に頼らない実験手法を基軸にした独自のアイデアでこれを克服し，「RC1はタイプ2機能をもつのか」という長きにわたる仮説論争に終止符を打つ。
