Outline of Research at the Start

潰瘍性大腸炎（Ulcerative colitis: 以下UC）は原因不明の難治性疾患であり、本邦では患者数が増え続けている。約半数の患者で下痢、下血、腹痛などの症状が増悪する再燃を繰り返すが、UCの再燃に関する病態は不明であり、現行の治療法でも再燃を完全には予防できない。本研究では先行研究において、再燃を認めたUC患者において、大腸粘膜での遺伝子発現が低下していたbestrophin2（BEST2）について、その機能を解析しUCの再燃病態への関与を検証する。UCの再燃におけるBEST2の役割を検討することで、UCにおける新たな再燃予防治療の創出が期待される。
