Outline of Research at the Start	左右相称動物は、ボディプランに左右軸をもち、個体発生に左右極性がある。その左右が反転した系統は一般に見つからない。このホモキラリティ規則に反し、巻貝では左右逆に発生する系統がくり返し出現した。その巻貝の全体において、ほとんどの分類群の集団は右巻か左巻のどちらかに固定している。ところがマレイマイマイの系統では、左右逆に発生する実像型と鏡像型が同一樹木の同一集団に共存する二型種群が進化した。本研究の遂行により、マレイマイマイ類に著しい多様な左右性がどのような進化プロセスを経て出現したのかに答える。
