Outline of Research at the Start

結核は結核菌によって引き起こされる感染症で、単一の細菌に起因する感染症では最も多くの人々を死に至らしめてきました。結核菌に感染してもすぐには結核を発症せず、生体内で休眠し長期間潜伏します(潜在性結核感染症:LTBI)。その一部が再活性化して結核を発症します。本研究では、生体内で「鳴りを潜めていた」結核菌が再活性化し結核を発病する機構を、線虫およびカイコ感染モデルを作成して解明します。そして、結核の発病抑制・病態予知・新たな薬剤標的基盤の確立を目指します。
