Outline of Research at the Start

特発性正常圧水頭症は、脳脊髄液が脳室やくも膜下腔に貯留することにより脳が障害され、高齢者で徐々に認知症や歩行障害をきたす病気である。治療としては脳脊髄液シャント術という外科的治療が有効であるが、病気のの原因や発症のメカニズムはわかっていない。アルツハイマー病などの病気では慢性的な脳の炎症が起こっていることが指摘されているが、特発性正常圧水頭症と脳の炎症との関連については不明である。本研究では、PETという脳画像検査法と、脳の炎症のイメージングのために開発された新しいPET用放射性薬剤である[18F]SMBT-1を用いて、脳の炎症が特発性正常圧水頭症とどのように関わっているかを明らかにする。
