Outline of Research at the Start

自閉スペクトラム症（ASD）などの神経発達症をもつ子どもは定型発達児と比べて睡眠の問題を抱えやすいことが知られる。睡眠問題は脳機能や心の健康に影響し、行動の問題と深く関わるという学術的背景がある。睡眠の誘発やリズム調節に作用する神経伝達物質のひとつにメラトニンがあり、ASD児は正常なメラトニン概日リズムを示さないという報告もある。神経発達症児の睡眠の問題に伴う血中メラトニン濃度と日中の問題行動の関連を調べることで、神経発達症児の行動の問題に対し、メラトニン治療による睡眠の改善という間接的治療を見いだせる可能性がある。
