Outline of Research at the Start

気道や肺は外界と直に接する臓器であり，呼吸器疾患の成立や増悪には環境因子が大きく関与する．例えば，タバコ煙と慢性閉塞性肺疾患や肺癌、抗原と喘息，粉じんと急性肺障害や間質性肺炎などがその代表である．しかし，すべての重喫煙者が慢性閉塞性肺疾患や肺癌を発症するわけではないことからも明らかなように，疾患の発症や増悪への感受性は環境因子と宿主側防御機構とのバランスで決定されることが推察される。
そのことをふまえ，本研究では環境因子に対する生体防御機構の破綻が喘息の重症化に寄与するか検証する．
