Outline of Research at the Start

従来の脊髄損傷に対する研究は、運動機能の回復に焦点が置かれてきたが、近年は脊髄損傷に伴う二次的影響への関心が高まっている。
特に痛みは難治性で、有効な治療法が確立されていないのが現状であり、新しい治療法の開発に期待が高まっている。
我々はこれまで、神経障害性疼痛、脊髄障害性疼痛モデルに対し、骨髄幹細胞(mesenchymal stem cells: MSC) の静脈内投与（MSC治療）を施行し,「疼痛」に対して、効果があることを既に観察している。
この疼痛改善の治療メカニズムの解明により、疼痛を制圧する新しい治療法の開発に展開できるのではないかと本研究の着想に至った。
