Outline of Research at the Start

先天性白内障は世界的に子供の視覚障害または失明の大きな原因のひとつであるが，その発症機構はいまだ解明されていない。近年，コレステロール合成経路変異と白内障発症の関連が注目されている。
我々はこれまでに白内障を単独で発症する系統と，それから派生した白内障，脱毛，短顔の全身病態を示す系統のラットを確立した。これらラットの全ゲノム解析を行ったところ，コレステロール合成経路の遺伝子変異が見られた。
本研究ではコレステロール合成経路変異による白内障の発症機構を解明することを目的とし，これらラットの発生学的形態解析，遺伝子およびタンパク解析等を行い，その病因を明らかにする。
