Outline of Research at the Start

口腔癌患者では口腔内多発癌や上部消化管領域の重複癌、いわゆる広域発癌を生じることが多く、飲酒や喫煙以外の危険因子の存在が指摘されている。我々は「口腔内多発癌患者の腫瘍組織中にMCPyVが高頻度に同定され、かつ、ウイルス量も多い」ことを新たに見出した。また、食道癌の10～40%にHPV、胃癌の約10%にEBVが関与していることが知られている。
本研究では「口腔癌患者に高頻度に併発する上部消化管領域の重複癌（咽頭癌、食道癌、胃癌）において、MCPyV, HPV, EBVがどのように関与しているか？」について究明し、腫瘍ウイルスの共感染という新たな観点から口腔癌の広域発癌のメカニズムに迫る。
