本研究の特徴は、医療的ケア児を育てる親が、治療や検査、育児など様々な場面で児に関する意思決定を行う中での葛藤に焦点を当てるところにある。葛藤が続くことによりストレスの増大、夫婦関係の悪化から心身の健康状態への影響がある。また、悩み葛藤しながら日々生活している状況が継続されることは、家族関係の崩壊、ひいては子どもへの悪影響が生じる可能性が考えられる。医療的ケア児の育児は、児の生命や家族のQOLに直結することもあり、そこで起こる葛藤を明らかにすることで、関係者の支援の視点が明確となる。
