我が国の自殺死亡率は先進7カ国の中で最も高く, 70代以上の高齢者の占める割合が大きいため, 自殺リスクの高い人々に気づき,適切な対応ができるゲートキーパー（以下,GK）の養成が重要である。特に,高齢者に接する機会が多いと思われる民生委員へGK養成を行う必要があるものの,プログラムの開発は発展途中である。そこで,申請者らは以下に示す3つの課題に挑戦する。
① GK養成プログラム受講者のニーズと希望する内容を調査・解明する
② 短縮版と既存版のプログラムを比較し,効果（アウトカム）の違いを評価する
③ 短縮版のプログラムを複数地域で実施し,効果（アウトカム）の違いを評価する
