Outline of Research at the Start	明治期のアメリカ人女性宣教師がバスケットボールの日本への導入に果たした役割と、彼女らの活動が日本のスポーツ文化に与えた影響を明らかにする。すなわち、明治期のアメリカ人女性宣教師のバスケットボール導入活動に焦点を当て、具体的な手法や教育的アプローチを明らかにする。また、彼女らの活動が日本のスポーツ文化に与えた影響についても、できる限り具体的に明らかにする。したがって、明治期のアメリカ人女性宣教師の女子教育に焦点を当て、その影響を解明していくことで、明治期における体育教育の全体の解明にもつながり、ひいては体育に限らず他の教育への宣教師の役割解明の一助ともなり得る。
