Outline of Research at the Start

糖質は脳の重要なエネルギー源であるが、血中グルコース濃度が高い状態が続くと、神経細胞に障害を与えることが知られている。また、砂糖の摂取と注意欠陥障害には相関がある可能性もある。一方、糖質制限食が、健康に有効であると言われ、血中グルコース濃度と脳の健康の関係やその作用機構については明確ではない。本研究ではこの点に注目し、申請者がこれまで独自に開発・確立してきたショウジョウバエを用いた行動解析と階層縦断的研究により糖質の摂取量と個体への影響を明らかにすることを目的としている。本研究で得られる結果は、適切な糖質の摂取量と脳の健康への寄与を提言し、脳の健康に有効な薬物の発見に至る可能性が期待できる。
