Outline of Research at the Start

気候変動や生物多様性の減少をはじめ現代社会の諸課題に対応するため、自然科学と人文・社会科学の知を融合した「総合知」が必要とされている。本研究では、人間と社会の総合的理解をめざす学問である社会学の理論を基盤として、研究「対象」のみならず、研究「方法」も含めた文理融合に挑戦する。具体的には、研究代表者が構築してきた社会学理論を発展させるかたちで、ライフサイクルアセスメント（LCA）など物質的側面を定量的に把握する方法と融合する。これにより、複雑な現象に対しても、自然科学に基づいて物質的・定量的に把握するだけでなく、それを社会文化的な意味連関のなかに位置づけ、総合的に理解・判断することが可能となる。
