Outline of Research at the Start

知床半島の海岸に漂着する海洋ごみの問題は、世界自然遺産への登録前から存在し、現在も一向に解決の兆しがみえない。この地域の漂着ごみの９割は漁業活動に由来する漁具（産業廃棄物）である。本研究は、漂着ごみの動態に関する自然科学的な研究を行い、漂着ごみの海岸への付加・流出過程を明確にした上で、漂着ごみ問題解決のための既存の法制度・政策の限界を指摘し、あるべき法政策を提案する。さらに本研究は、知床世界自然遺産における事例研究を足がかりに、各地に分布する海岸を有する自然保護・保全地域の漂着ごみ管理に資するような法政策を見出すこともめざす。
