Outline of Research at the Start	「ジェノサイド」概念を生み、ジェノサイド条約成立の原動力となったラファエル・レムキンに関する研究が内外で深まっている。しかし、ナチスを逃れて米国への避難途上経由した日本の文化に魅了されたこと、東京裁判の準備過程に深くかかわったこと、遺稿『ジェノサイドの歴史』で17世紀の日本のキリシタン弾圧を論じていたこと等はあまり知られていない。本研究は、国内外で学術上未開拓のレムキンと日本との関係に着目し、彼の日本文化への憧憬と日本の事例研究が、彼のその後のジェノサイド研究にどのような影響を及ぼしたのか、あるいはどのような位置を占めたのかを検討し、レムキン及びジェノサイド研究発展の一助とするものである。
