Outline of Research at the Start	本研究の目的は、アジア・太平洋戦争下において図書館がどのような役割を果たしたのか、「銃後」の日本社会においていかなる「国民教化」を遂行していったのか明らかにすることである。具体的には①国民精神総動員運動並びに紀元二千六百年祝賀行事において図書館がどのような活動をしたのか、②戦時下の図書館で行われていた「特別巡回文庫活動」（時局文庫、国民精神総動員文庫など）や、国民読書運動として行われた戦時下の読書会の実態解明、③学生が勤労動員された工場で実施された読書会と「読書指導」の3点を軸に解明を進める。
