Outline of Research at the Start	アメリカ公立図書館における児童サービスの形成・確立・発展期である19世紀末から20世紀初頭を中心に、(研究課題1)児童サービスの思想、(研究課題2)児童サービスの実践、(研究課題3)児童サービスの組織・指導者という3つの研究領域を設定し、児童サービス全体にジェンダー、階級、人種、権力関係が浸透していた現実を探究する。それらの成果を土台として「児童サービスの理想と現実の確執」の解明を目指す。その結果、児童サービスの研究にジェンダー、階級、人種、権力関係の考察が不可欠なことを示し、現在及び、将来に向けて児童サービスの理論と実践に寄与することを研究目的とする。
