Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では19世紀フランスで活躍した科学普及活動家フィギエとフラマリオンに着目し、とくに彼らが手掛けた大衆向けの天文学に関する著述を検証することで、彼らが構築を試みた科学と一般大衆の関係を明らかにする。一般人に向けて専門知識を解説する著述家には何が求められるのか、科学と大衆の理想的な在り方とはいかなるものか、といった今日にも通じる課題についても再考する手がかりとする。
